I’m a Business Advisor with the Oklahoma Small Business Development Center, and my job is to work one on one with business owners to start successful new businesses, expand current businesses, and if possible, grow them out of the small business category. 99% of all businesses in Oklahoma are small businesses, but small businesses may be larger than you think! Even better, this service is at no financial charge to the client because of our federal sponsor, the US Small Business Administration, the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, higher education, technical education, chambers, and economic development group support.

The UCO Small Business Development Center (UCO SBDC) was part of the Oklahoma Small Business Development Center Network. For nearly three decades, I managed a staff that improved the central Oklahoma economy, with a focus on local Oklahoma businesses who will most likely keep their company in Oklahoma. Each year, the 500+ plus businesses seen, the 60+ businesses started, the hundreds of new jobs created, the millions of dollars in loans obtained annually add up to a stunning figure of one office having an impact upon tens of thousands of individuals and businesses.Implemented use of innovation and technology from the beginning of the wider use of the web and continues to evolve as forms of communication and technology has evolved in promoting business services and assistance from the Center and communication with clients. Led this award winning team providing excellent service to client customers, which had great impact upon the economic lives of their clients and the communities served.The UCO SBDC also ran The Catbird Seat, a business incubator designed to further the growth of their service based clients moving from a home-based environment to their first commercial space.

Past activities included purchasing, selling, renting and financing of musical instruments, a contract with Tinker Air Force Base to provide music services (eight renewals), music workshop engagements, free-lance manuscript copying, small-scale merchandizing. I have also spent 16 years directing church choirs in several churches in the Oklahoma City area.

Assisted liquidation department in liquidation of assets or debt compromises on personal portfolio and disaster home loans transferred from other SBA offices. Served as District IRS Refund Offset and Collection Agency Coordinator to handle and resolve disputes between SBA and borrowers, and served as the Women’s Business Ownership Representative. Setup district office to use the then new computerized loan collection system. Received recognition and cash award for suggestion used agency wide to assist in file tracking.
