Letter of Recommendation for Sushma Kumar, Hindi Teacher My two sons and I have taken hindi lessons from Sushma Kumar for the past two years and the India Center in White Plains, NY. It is my pleasure to recommend her to anyone wanting to learn a very difficult language. My sons started lessons with her prior to my joining the class, and with their encouragement, I soon joined in. Initially the class was to be for children only, but another group of parents also joined in, so we were a mixed group. Ms Kumar was very adept at combining teaching techniques that kept the interest of all her students. She taught a well balanced curriculum of both conversational and grammar, and was great at keeping the interest of both the adults and the kids. She was able to include not just practical conversational hindi, but also taught the hindi alphabet and writing. I'm a bit embarrassed to say that my kids have taken to the language far better than I have (apparently learning a language as an adult really is more difficult), but on a recent trip to India for a conference I was actually able to put my new knowledge to practical use. In other word, Ms Kumar's teaching skills have proven that an old dog can learn new tricks.
