HOD-Membership. Coordinated between Management and members of the YWCA. Liaisoned with the Press, the General public and Activists from other organisations; these included Medha Patkar of 'Narmada Bachao', and Indira Jai Singh, and Colin Gonsalvez of 'Lawyer's Collective'. Several Scientists, and Social Scientists, and Editors of magazines like The Sanctuary, were frequent partcipants at discussions, and seminars organised by me under the aegis of YWCA.Fighting for Women's rights is the core activity of the YWCA. I was at the forefront of organising street protests, against marital abuse, rape, and harrassment of women in public places and in offices.I organised several camps, seminars, and national events for the Y in Mumbai, and attended similar events in cities across India.For over six months I single handedly worked for a very successful, literacy program for lower income women from a sweepers colony. Other programs I oversaw included upliftment of street children and beggars.I also edited the monthly newsletter of the Y.The exposure to so many intellectuals, broadened my outlook on serious social issues, and of the role played by politics in the country. I developed the ability to multitask, and to handle interpersonal issues with calm diplomacy.

Writing copy for advertisements, proof checking, and editing all matter for the agency; writing out reports of events within client organisations, and assisting in layout of six House Journals,

Covered, and filed daily reports on political developments, and local events. Interviewed eminent personalities, like MD of NFDC, Film stars, and Research Scientists.

I taught English and Biology to students of classes IX and X. This was not the best of my teaching experiences so I walked out after six months.

Taught English to students of classes IX and X, prepared them for ICSC Board exams. Undertook hobby sessions for groups of students ranging from classes 7 to 10; taught them Yoga, Creative writing, Nature studies, Dramatics and Public speaking. I also assisted in training the school basket ball team, for interschool tournaments.

Taught English Literature and English Language (Two separate subjects for ISC, and ICSC Board) classes X to XII. As class teacher of class XII for four consecutive years, I was responsible for the over all grooming of the teenage students. I counselled those girls who suffered emotional trauma due to parental neglect or discord in the family, and kept the school authorities informed of possible damage to the student's mental health, and performance. My students passed with flying colours, several getting cent percent marks in both subjects.I was put in charge of the Children's Association of the school for all extra curricular activities that covered monthly competitions in singing, declamation, painting and dramatics. I handled the dramatics club for the school and directed the main play for the Annual Founder's Day celebrations. This, my first job, taught me how to handle responsibility under pressure, and it enhanced my passion for the English language and literature.There was much I learnt about my subject through having to be one step ahead of very bright students, all above sixteen years of age. I worked hard to instill in them a lifelong love for English literature.
