• Prepare monthly financial statements in accordance to GAAP and higher education reporting guidelines by critical deadlines in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.• Primary resource to reconcile all university bank accounts, records reconciling items and submits reconciliations by assigned deadlines.• Monthly review of transactions recorded to the financial statements to ensure accurate reporting.• Assist in preparing detailed variance analysis with explanations to the Director of Finance and CFO by assigned deadlines.• Assist in the coordination of annual audit and quarterly review activities of external auditors.• Manage month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing.• Maintain detailed records for fixed assets and calculate appropriate depreciation expense to offsetting accumulated depreciation accounts.•Work with Director of Finance to formulate, implement, document, and monitor University policies, procedures and internal controls.•Coordinate the preparation of federal Form 990 and State Form 199 tax returns gathering and providing information to third party preparer as requested (currently Capin Crouse).• Audit departmental purchases for sales/use tax liability preparing general ledger entries to record sales/use tax expense to departments with appropriate offset to sales tax payable.• Process payroll data as exported from time and attendance module, Time Bank interface and pay period adjustments to the payroll services (ADP)• Maintain proficiency with systems related to payroll, the payroll service, timekeeping module, APOU’s general ledger and related accounting system.• Maintain an understanding of general ledger account numbers, independent contractor definitions, sales/use tax regulations and W-9 requirements.
