The Franklin Legacy Fund is a private family foundation which invests in and partners with nonprofits that are ready to take the next step in their growth with a unique mixture of funding and exprtise. Drawing on my more than 35 years in non-profit management and governance and the experience of our program officers, we make focused empowerment gifts and coach the recipientsto maximize our impact. Our focus is on establishing sustainability through board and staff development using a visioning protocol developed in partnership with Zingtrain of Ann Arbor, Michigan and customized business plans developed by seniors from the College of Business at CSUMB.

The Youth Arts Collective is the "varsity art team" of Monterey County. For the athletes, there are teams, for the writers, the school newspaper, the actors usually a school play, but the talented student artist has no place to get recognition for his or her abilities. YAC represents a privately funded answer to the elimination of the visual arts from the public schools. In its fully equipped, spacious Monterey studio, young artists from area schools have the opportunity to develop their talent, learn how to frame their work and put on an art exhibition where their work is sold and how to proceed if they want to make art their career. At YAC they find a supportive community of people who "get" what they are about.Over its 10 years of its history, YAC has sent 92% of its participants to either a two year, four year college or art school, This program is easy to replicate and we hope will be a model for other communities to use to make sure these talented kids, who often don't fit into the conformist culture of high school, are nurtured.
