An ACMA qualified Accountant with over two decades of experience in operational and strategic financial management and investment analysis; I set up Altum Solutions to help businesses of all shapes and sizes to get to grips with their numbers. Working with companies and charities of all shapes and sizes, Altum Solutions provided me with excellent experience and having worked with Tetrad Ltd as a Consultant during my time as Altum Solutions Ltd, I decided in October 2018 to accept an employed position with them.

I played a proactive part in ensuring both the viability and survival of our small rural school. With just 48 pupils this involves working closely with other members of the governing body and the senior management team to develop and apply sustainable strategies. These included a unique federation with a fellow primary school 20 miles away; to improve pupil attainment; and to attract more pupils. I have been involved in attracting and retaining good quality teaching staff and the implementation of effective resources so as to ensure pupil attainment and progression is above national average.

As an Investment Analyst, it was my responsibility to identify overlooked opportunities in companies under my coverage within both equity and bond markets. Whilst this can appear a very specialist and niche skill, it utilises an easily transferable financial and non-financial skill set. Financial data can be reported and interpreted in a variety of ways, particularlay across different industries and geographical borders. As an Investment Analyst with strong accounting skills I accurately analysed financial data to identify latent and emerging trends.My ability to objectively research and analyse industrial and thematic developments and the impact of these builds an enriched view of corprate strategies being pursued and whether pertinent key performance indicators and management incentives are aligned accordingly to ensure successful execution. A key element of my approach included building and maintaining relationships with senior management, industry experts, regulators and government bodies, each having their own agenda. Leveraging this network ensures that my conclusions are balanced. I remain in active communication with management, regulators and industry bodies in sectors no longer under my current remit, which demonstrates my personable nature and integrity in a hugely competitive industry. By combining these inputs I built an enriched investment strategy directly through the purchase of shares or bonds or to engage with management in order to influence their strategic direction. The success of this approach, which I have employed across the media, telecoms, utilities, support services, capital goods, tobacco, and aerospace and defence sectors, was evidenced by my consistent outperformance.

As Management Accountant on the Harrier and Tornado Spares and Repairs Contracts, I was responsible for the identification of relevant key performance indicators for each contract and the development and application of a balanced scorecard. I was responsible for the preparation of the monthly accounts; variance analysis against budget; supporting colleagues in the development of action plans to address variances; and preparation of annual and three years budgets. Working accurately within tight timescales and communicating effectively with both operational project leaders and fellow financial colleagues. My initial role within BAE Systems was to work in a small team tasked with developing the overhead reporting structure within the evolving Spares and Repairs business unit. This role included working closely with the Heads of Overhead Departments to determine accurate and motivationally effective key performance indicators that would not only support the development of the business unit but would also support the Departmental Heads in the cultural shift from a sleepy, often overlooked, business unit, to one of a driving force within the wider Group. More typical responsibilities also included the preparation of monthly accounts for the overhead units; variance analysis; supporting non-financial colleagues in the development of relevant variance action plans; preparation of annual and three year budgets.

Providing effective financial support and communication enabled me to quickly gain and sustain credibility with operations managers across the group. Developing realistic but challenging project budgets; proactively controlling costs and developing action plans to address variances ensured that projected profitability was maintained.
