About Dr. Susila Davis-Singaravelu

I'm a Senior Research Consultant at Quotidian Strategies, Academic Advisory Panel member at TASO (Transforming Access Student Outcomes in HE), Research Advisor on school-university parterships, and Course Lead for NVivo (qualitative data analysis software) at the University of Oxford. Previously I was Interim Director of Research and Learning at the Centre for Knowledge Equity, and a senior research fellow at the Centre for Global Higher Education at UCL Institute of Education, investigating graduate experiences of student loans. Before that I was research lead and evaluation coordinator in widening participation in higher education in Oxford's Undergraduate Admissions and Outreach department. I designed and co-led on a collaboration with The Challenge Academy Trust (TCAT) in Warrington, Cheshire which aims to support raising attainment in schools with a view towards diversifying the potential pool of applicants at university entry. My PhD thesis at Oxford studied primary schools' engagement with an online platform called Pathways, built by the Oxford University Press. This was an innovative, collaborative PhD, which used a design-based research framework that investigated schools' improvement journeys alongside the design and redesign of the Pathways platform. During my PhD, I taught department-, division- and university-level research methods and NVivo courses to postgraduate students and staff. Previously, I was a contract researcher on several educational projects after completing a Master's degree in Educational Research Methodology. I have experience in a range of quantitative and qualitative research methods applicable in education and the social sciences. My Master's dissertation was based on youth programmes, informal learning, educational inequalities and alternative education.Areas of interest include:Knowledge co-production and translation across multiple perspectivesCommunity-informed researchResearch and learning in organisationsHigher education and schools researchDesign-based researchQualitative research methodsAdvanced quantitative methodsCase study designDesigning questionnaires, interview protocols and observation schedulesConducting interviews and focus groupsParticipant observationDocumentary and literature analysisEducational and public sector research, social housing, policy development and youth work.NVivo, SPSS, PL/SQL Developer, Business Objects, MS Office (including advanced Excel).
