LEADERSHIP IN PRIVATE & PUBLIC SECTORS: With over 40 years of experience in both private and public sectors, I've held diverse leadership roles, from the C-Suite to national-level advocacy. A significant chapter was my work with the UN Global Compact, promoting sustainability principles in Sri Lanka. In corporate roles, I led initiatives that propelled Sri Lanka to be recognized as the #1 Best-in-Travel by Lonely Planet in 2019.I played a pivotal role in bringing global events like the IRON MAN triathlon to South Asia and boosting Sri Lanka's digital presence, reaching over 100 million travellers. Strategic resource deployment included a historic $3.5 million digital marketing promotion targeting top source markets. My commitment to continuous learning is reflected in my CGMA fellowship, MBA from the University of Warwick, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Sustainable Value Chains from the University of Cambridge.Accolades include the Institute Silver Medal from CIMA UK in 2014. As Chair in 2010, I led a 23% growth in CIMA student intake. My dedication to ethical business practices is evident in initiatives like launching the 'Ethical tea brand of the world' and contributing to five INSEAD Case Studies for Hayleys.My commitment extends to global causes, participating in events like the Colombo Stock Exchange joining the UN Sustainable Stock Exchange in 2015 and 'Ring the Bell' for Gender Equity at the New York Stock Exchange in 2016. The Bureau headed by the Chairman, Managing Director and a Board of Directors comprising of representatives from the Tourist Hotels Association of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators, Association of Small and Medium Enterprises in Tourism etc.SLTPB’s main objectives would be marketing and promoting of Sri Lanka directly and indirectly as a tourist and travel destination of quality specified in accordance with the Tourism Development Plan.During my two year term, a couple of major non-traditional strategic initiatives were taken to promote and market Sri Lanka as a preferred destination to the world. It included holding few world class events particularly in the areas of sports & cultural - these were bening held for the first time in South Asia. Another bening and very intensive work was done with social travel influencers/bloggers (which was non-exisitent) and gained significant digital presence which was absurdly lacking as a destination to showcase the diversity that Sri Lanka could offer travel seekers. These were among the many other laid down regular strategies but was delivered with a difference. We received several global recognitions and the notable being adjudged the # 1 Best - in - Travel for 2019 by Lonely Planet and a leading global Travel Influencers recognizing that Sri Lanka is visible today than before at the Cinnamon Future of Futurism held in October 2018 at Cinnamon Grand Hotel, Colombo.Participated in regional meetings (BMSTEC) to promote regional tourism.
