    Translational research: Generating hepatocytes from patient-derived iPSCs towards cell therapy, drug testing and disease modeling.- Successfully proposed, developed and led a major $2.3 Million translational research grant from CIRM. - Established the use of hepatocyte transplantation as a potential, long-term ‘cure’ for hemophilia B in our mouse models for the disease.- Generated iPSC lines from patient-derived PBMCs, identified disease-causing mutations & corrected them by CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing. - Developed and refined an optimized protocol for the differentiation of iPSCs to hepatocytes. Transplanted these in vitro differentiated hepatocytes into our mouse model.- Initiated & developed non-viral, mRNA based therapeutics in collaboration with Arcturus Rx (PNAS, Feb 2017). - Identified a new class of periportal hepatocytes called Hybrid hepatocytes that repopulate a liver under chronic injury. Also established them to be more resistant to oncogenic transformation.
