I was selected as 1 of 26 fellows for the 2024-2025 Chicago Area Albert Schweitzer Fellowship. The Program’s interdisciplinary approach exposes students to real-world inter-professional collaborative care that focuses on the health and well-being of underserved Chicago communities.In planned collaboration with Gilda’s Club and the Loyola Medicine Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center, I propose to design patient-centered educational resources and workshops on sexual health for female-identifying people living with cancer. I aim to address the unique sexual health-related survivorship needs that patients face throughout their cancer journey. My project will combat existing stigmas around sexual functions. Any efforts at incorporating comprehensive sexual health education for patients must build a foundation that allows for a long-term shift in societal culture and aims to ameliorate issues of gender and racial equity, socioeconomic disparities, sexuality, reproductive health, and autonomy. Simply put, access to resources that promote good and unstigmatized sexual/reproductive health is a human right and requires the dismantling of systems of oppression and stigmas that contribute to negative outcomes based on varying identities of age, race, gender identity, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, and ability. Overall, by designing this project to highlight patients who balance their cancer diagnosis with other social determinants of health, I hope to help create a space and resources that are empowering and open the door for long-term improvements in sexual health and well-being. Further, there is a known gap in medical training when it comes to sexual medicine education, especially in female sexual medicine, and this gap only widens through graduate medical education. Thus, I will explore opportunities to provide supplemental residency medical education modules, primarily through resident clinics in internal medicine, oncology, and obstetrics/gynecology.

The Forum is an organization to facilitate medical students to collaborate and learn about Female Sexual Medicine (FSM). As an Education Committee Member, I work with a team to explore current medical literature and education materials surrounding female sexual medicine (FSM). We are developing content to be distributed amongst medical students and trainees to enhance exposure to these topics. I was selected as a trainee in the Maternal Child Health Careers/Research Initiatives for Student Enhancement – Undergraduate Program hosted by the Kennedy Krieger Institute. Through MCH-LEARN, I will rotate through clinical experiences, participate in community engagement and advocacy programs, and work on public health research projects.

-With Dr. Andrea Swartzendruber-Help spearhead a research project to understand period poverty in UGA community and Athens-Clarke County-Will conduct a community needs assessment, implement a pilot program that dispenses free biodegradable menstrual products on campus, monitor/publicize pilot program and survey data collected on the impact of COVID-19 on menstrual product access

-Through my role as an Honors Program TA, I aim to make my group of first year students feel welcome, engaged, empowered in their ability to enact meaningful change on campus and in the community. My unique position as a peer-mentor has not only allowed me to foster connections between my first year students, but it also made the meaningful relationships I have with my fellow TAs. -Meet with students once a week for two-thirds of each semester, provide information on how to pursue educational opportunities supported by the UGA Honors program and how to seek fulfilling life experiences in the community-Meet weekly with other TAs to brainstorm ideas on how to better reach and support our students-Develop public speaking and mentorship skills-Spoke on the importance of service at the Spring 2020 Honors 1st Year Convocation ceremony.

-In Department of Physiology and Pharmacology with Xiaoqin Ye (M.D., PhD)-Study the reproductive physiology within C57BL6 mice-Identify molecular mechanisms of embryo implantation, importance of uterine receptivity, and pregnancy disruptors-Perform lab procedures such as genotyping, ear tagging/tail clipping, dissection, gel electrophoresis, PCR, in-situ hybridization, histology, tissue staining, and organ mounting.

Selected as one of 36 members of the 30th Class of Arch Society at the University of Georgia. Arch Society serves as the official hosts and goodwill ambassadors for the University of Georgia, representing the institution at events with alumni and visitors. As the elected Vice Chair of Operations for the 30th Class, I am responsible for coordinating correspondence for the Executive Board and recording the minutes of Executive Board meetings. By maintaining this culture of intra-organizational accountability, my responsibility is to ensure that the inner workings of Arch run smoothly.

I will be assisting with the FarmRX Program, which aims to increase patient fruit and vegetable consumption by facilitating access to fresh produce, providing health knowledge and cooking education, and working to improve patients’ overall health. As an intern, my goals are to ensure accurate and effective collection of research data, ease of patient participation, and an overall successful implementation of the program as it continues into the fall. I will be assisting with patient recruitment, online nutrition education classes, patient health screenings (height, weight, waist circumference, blood pressure, A1c, and lipid levels), and input of program, screening, and questionnaire data.

-With Dr. Andrea Swartzendruber-Participated in a seminar for instruction from leading experts on policy areas such as international security, human rights, education, the environment, economics, and health care-Conducted an overview of comprehensive sexual health education standards in Georgia K-12 public schools and proposed policy alternatives to abstinence-only sexual health education.

-Since 2012, my family and I have run a vendor stall at the Athens Farmers Market as a hobby. In search of a platform, we found that the way we could bond as a family and as community members was through cooking. Through our interaction with the members of the Athens community, we hope to share a small part of our culture and Indian cuisine.-Assist in the preparation of food, set up of vendor tent, restock supplies as needed, work with customers, create merchandise displays, manage money, and oversee social media presence.
