Founder & Cto/CeoNanospin Incorporated Oct 2012 - Aug 2015I started FYELABS by "accident", when my labmates and I (at Virginia Tech) won the VT KnowledgeWorks Tech Transfer Challenge, a pitch competition with an award of $100,000 (cash and in kind combined). We used the funds to develop the prototype of our core technology, a thermomagnetic cooling system for servers, and do intense customer discovery through NSF I-Corps, which was critical in my conversion from an "academic" to an entrepreneur.Moved to Canada in 2014 seeking the more favourable immigration policies towards startup founders. There, we participated in the Creative Destruction Lab to further refine our market entry.I started off as the inventor and CTO of NanoSpin while one of my labmates took the role of CEO. When he left for a rather attractive job, I took on the role of the CEO while another one of my cofounders took over as the CTO. My role, initially, was in perfecting the product. After the move, I focused mainly on customer discovery and fundraising, with a raise totaling ~ $ 1 M.Exited the company in late 2015. Not allowed to talk about the specifics of the exit.
