I have more than 30 years of laboratory experience and value every day in the lab learning, solving problems and tackling new challenges. I began my laboratory career as a bench Microbiology Technologist and worked on different laboratory roles over the years. My professional focus has centered on the different use of molecular techniques, multidrug resistant bacteria and other efficiencies affecting the clinical molecular and microbiology laboratories. My accomplishments have resulted in numerous poster presentations at scientific meetings, authorship of peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. For the last 15 years, I’ve been a member of the Tampa General Hospital (TGH) team, first as a Clinical Scientist, then as a Scientific Director and now as the Director of the Esoteric Testing, Research and Microbiology Laboratories. In 2021, I was appointed an Assistant Professor for the Division of Infectious Disease & International Medicine at USF Health Morsani College of Medicine. In this role, I coordinate infectious diseases studies at Tampa General, analyze and present laboratory data and serve as a mentor to faculty in Molecular and Microbiology Methods. I am passionate about laboratory innovations and how to use them to improve lab diagnostic. I am also a true believer of multidisciplinary teams and as such, I am an active member of the Infection Prevention and Antimicrobial Stewardship Committees at TGH.
