I was also appointed to the Research… Show more My Trustee role gave me the opportunity for growth in a number of areas; I attended Board Meetings (consisting of people from such diverse areas as senior civil servants, consultant immunologists, company directors, patients, and parents/carers) where we made decisions on staff salaries, research grant applications, staffing issues, representations to British Parliament and European Parliament, allocation of funds, consensus documents and patient concerns. I was also appointed to the Research Grants Committee where we interviewed prospective research projects and then advised the Board on our recommendations for funding.I delivered presentations to clinical and non-clinical staff in a variety of settings and co-hosted, with consultants and nurses, regional days for patients as well as running bereavement weekends for families who had lost a child. I also attended conferences in Europe for the charity, working alongside clinical and non-clinical staff, as well as patients and families. I had a poster submission accepted illustrating, and evaluating, our research and support into the impact of diagnosis on mental health and wellbeing. In my personal life, through fundraising, I funded and set up the Paediatric Immunology Service in Manchester and continue to work closely with the consultants and nurses in evaluating the service and providing input during their patient days.
