The NRI is leading the way we approach health and wellness by exploring the intersection of genetics and nutrition. This is the growing field of nutrigenomics, or Precision Nutrition. I create and implement strategic public communications plans to raise awareness and build cases for financial support from individual, corporate and foundation donors for the institute and its research scientists. I envision and manage institutional branding and messaging to effectively translate scientific research for public understanding across all communications channels. I produce a series of free, monthly information-sharing events for the public and conduct tours of the NRI's cutting-edge research facility. Through these media and events, I am the organizational storyteller, creating a bridge between science and those who stand to benefit from it.

The Bechtler is an intimate museum whose collection includes works by the most important and influential artists of the mid 20th century. As the first development officer in the newly established institution, I established policies and implemented procedures to identify, attract, cultivate and sustain members, major donors, corporate sponsors and foundation grants. I created membership and donor communications through traditional and online channels to encourage support and ensure that museum-goers were satisfied with their experience. I crafted and managed member and donor engagement events from small cocktail parties to annual galas, and accompanied major donors on art-based trips.

As both a freelancer and in various staff positions, I have made a career in communications, working every angle and detail of the process from drafting to proofreading, copywriting to rewrite editing, vendor selection to print management. I have extensive experience in both print and digital formats, producing educational study guides, news articles, ad copy, marketing materials, website content, donor materials, press releases, proposals, travel guides, and case study books. My research and analytical skills allow me to craft accurate, succinct informative material while my love of wordplay produces clever, compelling marketing copy. Specifically, I have researched and written five bed-and-breakfast guidebooks published by the Preservation Press and John Wiley & Sons (The National Trust Guide to Historic Bed and Breakfasts, Inns and Small Hotels--now out of print) as well as case study books on downtown revitalization and heritage tourism and study guides tying arts to the NC Standard Course of Study. I have also had a short story published in the anthology, Original Sin published by The Paper Journey Press (2004).
