• Led a team of 5 federal and 14 contract scientists conducting research on fish and fisheries.• Oversaw a research budget of roughly $1M annually including all procurements of research supplies and equipment as well as administering contracts for personnel, technical services and ship charters.• Provided fisheries science and management leadership through domestic and international committee service including leadership on advisory panels to the Pacific Fisheries Management Council and the International Scientific Committee for Tuna and Tuna-like Species in the North Pacific Ocean.• Conducted studies on the biology of large pelagic fishes from writing proposals for funding, to designing projects, conducting experiments and analyses, writing papers of research results, and disseminating results though scientific seminars, the web, media and outreach events.• Mentored junior staff, postdoctoral fellows and students; served on the committees seven graduate students and numerous undergraduates from institutions in the US and Mexico. • Organized and participated in annual marine research surveys.• Traveled extensively domestically and internationally related to fisheries science and management as a representative of the US Government.• Served as interim Director and Deputy Director of the Fisheries Resources Division (2014-2015)

• Conducted research on the physiology and ontogeny of diving capacity in elephant seal pups at Ano Nuevo Island and Long Marine Lab.
