When my massage therapy practice became more and more medically-based; having many clients anticipating or recovering from orthopedic, cardiac, or cancer surgeries, or seeking support while undergoing radiation or chemotherapies, it reignited my deep but unfulfilled desire to be a nurse. The FIRST time I went to to college I worked my way through on a Skilled Nursing Unit and loved working with elder populations, leading me in 2008 to take a position as a home health aide to see if that passion was still there - and it was! During the five years I worked in this position I was supervised and mentored by some amazing RNs, BSN-WOCNs, and NPs who gave me opportunities to learn basic skills in wound care and dressings which focused my interests in advancing my training to certified wound care level. Receiving my ADN with honors from North Shore Community College is the first completed step of my journey. I will be enrolling in an RN-BSN program January 2020, and then to WOCN status. My extensive experience performing "eyes on" assessments as a massage therapist and home health aide set me above the average as a nursing student where I earned high praise for my keen observations, nursing diagnoses, and interventions. Consistently I have be recognized by clinical supervisors, patients, and their families for my compassionate careing and ability to connect meaninfully with patients. I have strentgh in patient advocacy and a willingness to go the extra mile for my patients. My work and life experiences make an "out of the box" thinker when identifying patient needs and creating targeted, individualized care plans that achieve results.I am so thrilled to establish my career as a nurse at this time in my life. I bring a wealth of skills that cannot be taught but are learned and earned through life experiences, such as empathy, compassion, non-judgement, and acceptance with grace and dignity. I know I offer much more to the profession now than any time in my life.
