Profile bio

About Suzanne Fox

Books have been the heart of my professional work for almost thirty years and my personal life ever since I first memorized Yertle the Turtle cover to cover. (Yup, the first change agent who ever inspired me was a burping turtle.) I write books, “doctor” books, edit books, review books, and teach various aspects of book publishing and writing. I read and re-read books, I discuss and debate them, and I teach others about their wonder and their craft whenever I can.I’m the Creative Director of Stories of You Books, the publishing company I founded with my twin brother, Andy, in 2014. We publish only anthologies, a specialty that allows us to share a broad range of voices and explore the truths that are found at the intersection of many stories. Collecting both organizational and individual essays, we create books for the retail market on themes including creativity, mentorship, healing, and community. We also develop private label, branded-imprint, and fully customized anthologies for organizations, as well as designing workshop, workbook, and anthology packages. My experiences in book writing and publishing have run the gamut from the (apparently) glamorous to the (undeniably) menial, with stops at “weird,” “super weird,” and “seriously, what was I thinking?” in between. While I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this kind of eccentric path to others, it’s given me an unusually broad sense of the book and publishing market as well as a deep and useful appreciation for all of the specialized and often unsung work that goes into a successful book. When not working on Stories of You, client projects, my online journal Society Nineteen, or my own historical novel-in-progress-please-let-it-feel-finished-soon, I take naps, attempt to wean myself off diet cola, and refuse to iron.

Listed skills include Book Publishing And Editing and Teaching And Speaking.

Society Nineteen

Reading widely about nineteenth-century experience by way of research for my own novel in progress, I was profoundly impressed and inspired by the diverse and talented contemporary authors who write fiction and nonfiction about nineteenth-century experience. Society Nineteen was created to celebrate some of that superb writing—and give me an excuse to talk to its creators. Authors featured on the site have included Tasha Alexander, April Bernard, Diana Bretherick, Angela Buckley, Maud Casey, Megan Chance, Sarah Chrisman, Sandra Dallas, Charles Finch, John Harwood, Gill Hoffs, Anna Lee Huber, Andrew Hughes, Leslie S. Founder

Bookstrategy Inc.

As an author, speaker, teacher, book reviewer and consultant, my work is diverse, yet always revolves around books and writing. More broadly, I see my work as focusing, honing, and sharing stories. From working on my own new novel to serving as "book doctor" or consultant on others' books to leading workshops, my goal is to create and/or collaborate on texts that showcase authentic voices and trace transformative journeys. My clients have included individual fiction and nonfiction authors as well as personal historians and biographers; I've offered keynotes, seminars and/or workshops for organizations including the American Association of University Women, the National League of American Pen Women, the Laura Riding Jackson Foundation, and the Romance Writers of America among other groups.

Book Reviewer

I regularly write reviews of mystery and general/literary fiction for this publishing-industry "bible."
