As the Founder and Director of the Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Aeronautics (WISA) and an Associate Professor at the University of Waterloo, I am committed to advancing social, environmental, and economic sustainability in aviation. My work encompasses academic research, industry consulting and service, and the development of global training methodologies, all aimed at shaping a more sustainable future for aviation.With over two decades of pioneering contributions, I’ve authored six books, including the internationally recognized textbook “Fundamentals of International Aviation”, and I serve as the Series Editor for Routledge’s “Aviation Fundamentals” textbook series. My insights have also been featured in prominent media outlets, including CNN International, Macleans, and Skies Magazine.I have taught thousands of aviation students, both in the classroom and through online learning, helping to empower the next generation of aviation professionals. In addition to my academic and publishing work, I serve as a board member of the Initiative for Sustainable Aviation Technology (INSAT) and as a member of the National Research Council’s Aerospace Advisory Committee. My past leadership roles include serving as President of the University Aviation Association (UAA) and being recognized as a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society (FRAeS).Before embarking on my academic career, I earned my aeroplane and helicopter pilot licenses by the age of 17, followed by commercial multi-engine IFR fixed-wing and rotary licenses.
