The gift of giving is A talk for sixth formers to complement PSHE/Enrichment initiatives. It’s core mission is to help the next generation of school leavers develop into open-minded, empathetic and compassionate individuals who want to give back to the world and feel a sense of empowerment and responsibility in doing so. We believe that cultivating this attitude of giving for our young people is crucial both for their fulfilment and for the survival of our planet as a whole. Suzie Black is Founder of the Charity Shambhala Fundación in Mallorca which she set up in 2013. She shares the stories of the young people she has worked with who have had to face considerable challenges. These stories deliver powerful messages and valuable life lessons to her audience of sixth formers as they live through their own struggles and face the challenges of burgeoning adulthood. Amidst all the lessons there is a focus on the most valuable message of all; that the Gift of Giving is not just about how the recipient benefits but how the giver benefits too. How giving builds self-esteem, how one’s own life and struggles can be put in perspective and how giving to others creates a ripple effect of joy in the knowledge that a difference has been made. In short, through giving people can derive a sense that one own’s life has a purpose. The powerful takeaway is about how simple actions can result in positive outcomes and enduring change for both the receiver and the giver.
