I make my home in the mountains of Alaska, about five miles from the stunning Matanuska Glacier. For twenty-five years I lived with my husband off the grid (no road, without public power, dependable water or TV). We built a log home and raised two boys and a variety of pets. Because I lived sixty miles from the nearest college, I pursued artistic interests with books from the local library, forty miles away. After devouring tons of books, I began to fly to watercolor workshops in the lower forty-eight states. Eventually, galleries across the state represented my work and they sold my watercolors. I have taught art in schools and have given small workshops in my studio. When I moved to Alaska from Oregon, I worked at a camp and taught rock and ice climbing, canoeing, hiking, survival skills and outdoor cooking to teens at an Alaskan camp. My husband and I live on the road system now with public power and dependable water. My husband owns a school bus transportation service and I periodically drive bus, delivering a few children to their homes fifty miles from the school. It's a great opportunity to connect with students and their parents. I listen to audiobooks after the students are off the bus and when I drive the fifty miles to our nearest town with a grocery store. Audiobook narration is an extension of my creative approach to life. I feel like I know the characters and I'm keenly interested in the story. Storytelling is like framing a painting. The frame should enhance and support the work, not distract from it. My narration should be forgotten and the listener should hear the story, not my voice. I narrate for several lovely publishers from my professional home studio in Glacier View, Alaska.I am regularly cast for nonfiction (self help, memoir, history) and fiction (cozy mysteries, literary fiction, YA) I have narrated over 150 books.
