I am an experienced communications executive, prolific writer and skilled editor who specializes in developing and executing institutional strategy and strong brand identity. At Blair Academy, I serve in dual roles as strategic advisor, thought partner and “organizer-in-chief” to the Head of School, as well as leader of the school’s communications function. Working with offices across campus, I map out, implement and measure progress toward achieving organizational priorities, ghostwrite speeches and communications, oversee PR and crisis communications, and develop innovative print or digital marketing initiatives. My metrics-based approach to improving operations and efficiency and supporting enrollment and fundraising benchmarks is informed by my graduate studies in corporate and nonprofit communications, as well as 20-plus years of experience in marketing and communications in the fields of journalism, healthcare and education. Beyond helping to craft, guide and execute organization communication strategy as a member of the senior leadership team at Blair, I have spent more than a decade developing and enhancing the school's reputation and competitive standing in the boarding-school marketplace. In my prior nonprofit experience at the American Thoracic Society (ATS), where I first learned the ropes as communications associate and later as manager, senior manager and, ultimately, associate director of my department, I specialized in digital and print marketing campaigns, community engagement and media relations. Although I had already begun developing my skill for taking complex medical information and breaking it down in a digestible way for lay audiences as I shifted from my start in journalism to PR at the National Museum of Health and Medicine, it really came into focus as a specialized skill during the time I worked at ATS. Over the course of my career, I've honed my skills as a communications expert skilled at directing operations but who is also not above being a utility player comfortable pitching in where needed to move the mission of the institution forward. Whether that means supporting the organization’s CEO, acting as liaison to the Board of Trustees, writing, editing, designing websites, producing publications, managing projects or considering new media or advertising opportunities, analytics always inform strategy and innovation is always top of mind. In a crowded marketplace with a lot of noise, my goal is to make the brands of which I am an ambassador stand out in ways that are authentic, meaningful and impactful.
