Sven Schimschar is HVAC engineer and market expert for buildings and construction. After almost 15 years working as Consultant at Ecofys / Navigant / Guidehouse, in April 2022 Sven started his new position as market manager building services at Wilo. His working experience comprises detailed market analyses in more than 50 countries worldwide but also global studies with a focus on heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems as well as new construction and renovation activities. He brings along a deep technical knowledge of conventional and innovative / renewable heating systems in residential and commercial buildings typically used in developed but also developing countries. In his career, also considering the fact he worked as certified mechanic for HVAC systems before studying HVAC engineering at the university, Sven worked on all aspects of technical implementation, installation and modernization of heating systems including planning, sizing, operating and fuel switching options. In his work for national and regional governments, he also translates his technical and market knowledge into suitable policy measures and support programmes.He is familiar with several market research instruments such as primary data gathering using surveys (from representative household panels to stakeholder specific expert interviews), official statistics and secondary literature. For his market analyses, he combines different types of sources to overcome data gaps and develops project specific Excel based tools. For this purpose, he also developed the GLObal Building Stock Model (GLOBUS) that allows the development of residential and non-residential building stock inventories for all countries in the world and their long-term future development. In recent years, Sven managed and participated in several projects for manufacturers of building related products (e.g. Vaillant, Bosch Thermotechnik, Rockwool, Knauf Insulation, Saint Gobain, Velux and Danfoss), national governments, the European Commission and other international organisations always with a focus on building market related topics and scenario developments. An example is his project manager role in the 3.7M Euro sized IKI funded project BUILD_ME: Accelerating zero-emission building sector ambitions in the MENA region that started in 2016 and still runs until 2022.
