Marta's Ball is a relatively new project which in a short time has become a traditional charity event in Riga since 2014. It is a new cultural and touristic project for Latvia. Marta's Ball took place in 2017 and 2018 in Daugavpils and in 2019 in Rezekne as a city festival. The idea behind Marta's Ball is: to raise awareness that Latvia is the homeland of Empress Catherine the First .The main goals of the project are:- To raise money for charity purposes- To make a special cultural fund to help in organizing classical concerts, exhibitions, events and historical forums to popularize the name of Marta ( Marta was the original name of Catherine the First)- Continue with an annual event in Latvia, which will be like the Viennese Opera Ball in Austria , Carnivals in Brazil, or Masquerades in Venice.- Promotion of Latvia as the country with a remarkable history- To attract more tourists- Convergence among the nations which live in LatviaMartas Balle - tā ir jauna latviešu tradīcija, kura var kļūt par starptautiska mēroga pasākumu, ja paši latvieši to atbalstīs. Tikai tad pie mums brauks viesi no citām valstīm, gluži kā uz Rio Karnevālu Brazīlijā, Venēcijas masku ballēm Itālijā vai Vīnes Ballēm Austrijā.
