Valentine Hill Farm is a peri-urban farm operating under ecologically sustainable chemical-free cultivation practices. My responsibilities include the day to day operations, hiring and training, marketing, sales and record keeping.This farm brings all my scientific content, teaching capabilities and design skills together. I have been able to develop a sound method of producing local produce and fruits without chemical intervention that exceeds the National Organic Program guidelines for organically grown foods. The farm supports 25 small families through three season CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) memberships as well as farm products to three local farmers markets. The use of high tunnel structures allow the production of seasonal crops earlier in the spring and later into the fall. The goal is to have a portion of the field provide a full 12 month growing cycle. The heart of the farm, soils some of the best agricultural sandy loam in the state, has been dramatically improved over the past 10 years through sound soil conservation management and organic content building. Resulting in better tasting higher quality produce and fruit. My status in the profession has been recognized, for the past five years I have been a contributing editor and peer reviewer for the Journal of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Community Development.

Responsible for site development and construction documentation preparation and review, permitting application from federal, state and local jurisdictions for utilities, storm water plans, land improvement and disturbance, landscape and construction progress supervision. Projects included residential subdivisions, commercial/retail integrated centers, parks, educational and medical campuses. Created new land survey service based on high definition laser scanning. This service provided more accurate as-built architectural documentation (interior and exterior) and topographic survey information. Projects included a GSA contract for the Bean Financial Center security rehabilitation and interior courtyard modification and EPA brown field mitigation cut and fill calculation. Bean Center required exterior topographic information, interior elevations and exterior 3d façade model for architectural services. The brown field project required accurate cut and fill calculations for the removal of a large earthen mound of industrial tailings and manufacturing waste.

The Children's Museum of Indianapolis - Educator/Curator of the Natural and Earth Sciences• Responsible for the day-to-day operations and supervision of three interior galleries and two outdoor galleries.• Curatorial duties included acquisition of specimens; research, display and interpretation; and the supervision of two part-time assistants.• Educational duties included gallery interpretation, visitor activities, collection display, and the supervision of one full-time employee and two part-time assistants.• Developed and implemented a major revision of the Natural Science Gallery (Budget $325,000), and the outdoor Clowes Garden Gallery (Budget $275,000). Coordinated the conversion of 100 acres of donated land to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources as Ritchey Woods State Nature Preserve.• Responsible for annual budget (average budget $325,000 including special projects and renovations paid through grants, endowment and sponsorship).• Developed two teacher workshops with The Hoosier Science Teachers Association, Inc.
