Presently, Swapnil is Principal Investment Officer & Microfinance Lead for Asia for International Finance Corporation. IFC has presently more than US$4 billion portfolio in microfinance and reaches over 20 million low income borrowers. He has been responsible for defining, adapting and implementing Microfinance Strategy & investments for the organization across Asia. Swapnil has been a development banker for 22 years and engaged in the areas of micro finance, microenterprise promotion and MSME Banking. He has been involved in leading and undertaking diverse range of activities, primarily, in the design, implementation and institutional policy reviews of large micro finance programmes. He has led several landmark transactions of equity/ quasi equity and debt in micro finance and participated in various Technical Assistance Projects of both client institutions as well as on sector wide issues in some of the key markets in Asia.

Board member of Microfinance Enhancement Facility S.A., SICAV-SIF (“MEF”), Luxembourg, a specialized fund supported by IFC, KfW & several other DFIs & Private Investors. The fund aims to support economic development and prosperity globally through the provision of additional development finance to micro-enterprises, via qualified financial institutions. The fund has so far invested in more than 40 countries in over 100 microfinance institutions to support lending to around 60 million low income borrowers.

Microfinance:One of the core members of SIDBI Foundation for Micro Credit [SFMC], which is an apex institution for MFIs in India with responsibilities of - Design, implementation and institutional policy reviews related with micro finance.- Designing new products for the micro finance clients.- Planning out effective capacity building strategies for promotion of a sustainable micro finance system.-Formulating equity/ quasi equity/ Capacity Building packages and on-lending fund support to Micro Finance Institutions. - Monitoring operational and financial performance of MFI clients.- Handling disbursements and legal documentation in respect of clients. - Multi disciplinary Strategic planning and development of strategic partnerships.- Networking with various programme partners (viz. NGOs/ MFIs, national and international development agencies, technical institutions /corporate houses) for forging further synergies in the programme.-Preparation of Credit and Risk Mitigation Framework for the micro finance operations.MSME Finance:Appraisal of Medoium & Small Enterprises for various financial packages including debt, quasi debt & Equity.Institutional appraisal of State Level Enterprises & Commercial Banks for refinanceCapacity Building programmes for MSMEs.
