International Finance Corporation- Principal Investment Officer & Financial Inclusion Lead for Asia, based out of Singapore.Swapnil has been active in impact investing space for more than 25 years, particularly in the areas of micro finance, microenterprise promotion and MSME Banking. Presently, he is Principal Investment Officer & Microfinance Lead for Asia for International Finance Corporation (IFC), based out of Singapore. He has led several landmark transactions of equity, quasi equity and debt in financial inclusion space and participated in various Technical Assistance Projects of both client institutions as well as on sector wide issues in some of the key markets in Asia. He has been involved in some of the largest global bank transformations, green fielding Low Income Financial Institutions (LIFIs) in several countries, downscaling activities of commercial banks, Private Equity investments in regional/ global expansion of LIFIs and product development for retailing as well as wholesale institutions. He has worked extensively with LIFIs doing different kind of lending methodology viz. group lending, individual secured lending, cash-flow based lending, different scoring based including internet based as well as behavior-based lending models. Swapnil, also presently serves on the board of Microfinance Enhancement Facility S.A., SICAV-SIF (“MEF”), Luxembourg, a specialized fund supported by IFC, KfW & several other DFIs & Private Investors. The fund aims to support economic development and prosperity globally through the provision of additional development finance to micro-enterprises, via qualified financial institutions. The fund has so far invested in more than 40 countries in over 100 microfinance institutions to support lending to around 60 million low income borrowers.Swapnil, a British Council Scholar, is MBA (Finance) & has Post Graduate studies in Development Finance from UK.
