Leader of the Account Opening, Credit, 1st, and 3rd Party Fraud data science team for Capital One’s Retail Bank division with leadership responsibilities to develop and implement machine learning products. These include real time predictive models that touch most customer experiences: when someone applies for an account, deposits money, overdrafts, or if they are a victim of account theft. The role requires a balance of managerial oversight and detailed technical review of modeling work to ensure these products are built according to high regulatory standards. My leadership style empowers team members to creatively express themselves through problem solving and original ideas to drive their growth, purpose, mastery, and autonomy. The overarching business purpose we then serve is to reduce the cost of fraud while improving the customer experience, allowing us to make our products better and offer them to more people at a lower expense.

Lead for data science team enabling increased return on marketing efforts for Capital One Consumer Bank. As a leader, my duties included: recruiting and developing a team of data scientists, technical roadmap development, flexible resource planning to adapt to changing needs, and cross-organization coordination on strategic objectives. As a data scientist, individual accomplishments ranged from marketing attribution algorithms to machine learning development (supervised and unsupervised) for use in targeting efficiency. Serve as accredited Model Risk Officer.

Data science team leader enabling double-digit return on marketing investment for Capital One Consumer Bank. As a manager, my duties include: mentorship, development, and guidance of associate data scientists; agile resource and schedule planning to adapt to changing needs; cross-organization collaboration on common efforts such as customer-centric marketing; and significant contributions to data science recruiting with interviewing and tool development. As a data scientist, individual accomplishments include: marketing attribution method design and construction; machine learning model development; application of clustering algorithms; and advanced statistical and other data analysis.

Program/operations manager for $6M DoD program with direct responsibility for: design and development of an enterprise software product based upon state-of-the-art big data analytics; providing operations support and training for all US Government users; requirements shaping and strategic development planning to ensure greatest return in user satisfaction for investment; creating impactful intelligence reports for US Government, including products for President’s Daily Brief. User satisfaction led to an additional $2.4M in funding for 2014. As an extra assignment, led business development pilot to provide analyst services to Saudi Arabian government customer. Efforts resulted in $2M contract within months of initial interest.

Lead analyst on social media analytics program supporting daily operational report rhythms and surge/24x7 efforts for commercial customer; duties included frequent customer interaction to gather requirements and report results, review of customer deliverable, leading junior analysts, and collection design.

Supported capture efforts of a $2B opportunity to provide the US Navy and Marine Corps with their next generation of computing infrastructure; duties included RFI response, RFP/SOW analysis, resource planning, strategic teaming, offer design, and win plan/strategy development. Additionally, I managed the budget for a Lockheed Martin research and development group with more than $3M in funds.

Planned a $4M+ research and development portfolio using Value Engineering/Decision Analysis to meet the strategic business needs of the Enterprise Integration Group ($800M+ in sales) formerly within Lockheed Martin.

Designed and managed the development of a software suite to capture US Navy customer data and automatically generate visually descriptive DoDAF-style architecture diagrams to plan their system acquisitions. Through another engagement, I designed and led the development of a suite of mission management software for the Air Wing Commander (US Navy Captain) of the aircraft carrier USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER. Delivered, installed, and demonstrated the software while the carrier was on exercises at sea; the Captain reported a productivity output of five times his previous level.
