As part of the UCI Healthy Oceans and People Lab, I aimed to understand the interconnectedness of disease, people, and the environment with an interdisciplinary team of researchers with diverse academic backgrounds, interests, and methodologies. My work focused on the application of geographic information systems (GIS) and large environmental datasets to monitor and assess coastal ecosystem health. ● Globally assessed time series trends of thermal and water quality stressors in coastal ecosystems (coral reefs, seagrass meadows, and kelp forests) over the past 25 years ● Quantified the potential economic impact of habitat-associated fisheries values due to threatened coastal ecosystems● Disentangled coral disease patterns using multidecadal coral survey datasets in the world's two largest reef systemI was also been Teaching Assistant across a variety of courses and roles.● Assisted Introduction to Biology, Introduction to Ecology, Freshwater Limnology, and Introduction to Biological Research● Roles in leading discussion sections and handling large lecture course logistics and communication

Floodbase is a remote sensing platform that maps floods in near real time and delivers dynamic risk information in a web dashboard at a fraction of the cost of traditional flood modeling. Their mission is to ensure that all vulnerable communities have the information they need to prepare for and respond to disasters by reducing the scientific barriers to information.● Developed and refined water extract algorithms using pixel and object-based methods for optical and radar satellite imagery● Rapidly mapped flood extents and interfaced with end-users for humanitarian relief efforts● Provided statistical analysis of precipitation and population exposure during flood events

Zooterra was a platform to engage in wildlife and habitat conservation in a direct, transparent and fun way using blockchain and satellite imaging technologies.● Leveraged decades of satellite imagery to discover trends and analytics within areas of conservation interest

The Center for Geospatial Research is an institution within the University of Georgia that investigates interdisciplinary geospatial technology and thinking. With expertise in GIS, remote sensing, GPS, UAVs, photogrammetry, virtual reality, and geovisualization, their internationally recognized work addresses physical and cultural issues in the human/environment exchange. I worked with the Center for Geospatial Research on a few projects:● Jackson Street Cemetery History - worked with a group of researchers to compile a history of the Jackson Street Cemetery in Athens, GA. These materials were being centralized into a web-based story application where users can view historic maps, aerial images, pictures, interviews, significant events, and other relevant information● Virtual Reality Initiative - used the Unreal Engine platform to render modeled environments based on aerial imagery and digital surface models. The goal was to develop life-like virtual landscapes and deploy them into VR goggles for immersive educational purposes

I worked with Dr. Deepak Mishra, Dr. Susan Wilde, Dr. Marguerite Madden, and Dr. Liz Kramer on my master's thesis titled “Utilizing Geospatial Cloud Computing and Big Data Analytics for Enhanced Cyanobacteria Harmful Algae Bloom Risk Mapping in Georgia Piedmont Waterbodies” as part of a USDA National Needs Graduate and Postgraduate Fellowship Grants Program grant. ● Used Google Earth Engine and Sentinel 2A imagery to create an interactive dashboard that allows global mapping of cyanobacteria harmful algal blooms. A user can zoom anywhere in the world, set a cloud cover filter, and browse the entire library of Sentinel 2A-based cyanobacteria cell density maps at that location● Analyzed environmental, climactic, and watershed land use variables that may increase waterbody risk for cyanobacteria harmful algal blooms● Used multivariate regressions in R to create a risk maps that will promote proactive, rather than reactive, cyanobacteria harmful algal bloom management ● Classified one-meter National Agriculture Imagery Program for improved land use/land cover accuracy over the National Landcover Database

The NASA DEVELOP program addresses environmental and public policy issues through interdisciplinary research projects utilizing NASA earth observation to perform geospatial analysis. Once projects are complete, the team delivers the final products and decision support tools to project partners and end users. While at the Goddard Space Flight Center from August 2013 - August 2014, I was the Center Lead and assumed responsibility for office projects, participants, problem solving, and administrative matters, as well as teaching new participants foreign geospatial concepts and methodologies.● Fall 2017 - Project Volunteer - Miami Beach Urban Development: Assessed historic mangrove extent and health using Google Earth Engine to help restore native habitats and enhance coastal resiliency● Spring 2016 - Project Member - Peru Climate II: Identified suitable areas for potato cultivation in the Peruvian Andes to help indigenous farmers adapt to changing climates● Summer 2014: Project Member - New England Ecological Forecasting: Investigated the effects of forest fragmentation on songbird populations in New England ● Spring 2014 - Project Lead - Mekong Disasters: Processed historic MODIS and Landsat imagery to generate flood map products and mitigation tools for rapid disaster response in the Lower Mekong Water Basin● Fall 2013 - Project Lead - Myanmar Ecological Forecasting: Monitored, mapped and analyzed mangrove forests in Myanmar for enhanced conservation and wetland restoration information● Summer 2013 - Project Member - New England Water Resources: Produced time series maps of chlorophyll and turbidity in Lake Champlain to aid water managers' local knowledge of cyanobacteria harmful algal bloom phenology

I helped ACCUG employees create geospatial products to inform a variety of planning decisions.● Produced a LiDAR-based tree canopy map for citywide green space analysis● Mapped invasive species (privet) to aid management and eradication efforts● Compared aerial images from 1939, 1953, and 2016 to map old growth forests● Compiled a one-meter land use/land cover map from one-meter NAIP imagery and ancillary data
