2012-2013 Fulbright research grant investigating undesirable product formation in pressurized entrained flow biomass gasification (PEBG) and cultural exchange through the establishment of a student chapter of Engineers Without Borders at Luleå University of Technology and participation in outdoor and agricultural activities.

Graduate researcher in the Institute for Clean and Secure Energy performing experimental research in gasification of lignocellulosic biomass and residues with steam at high-temperature and high-pressure using a 200 kW pilot scale bubbling fluidized bed reactor. Designed and installed a high-pressure solid feed system and high-temperature particulate filter for the pilot scale gasifier. Performed studies on the effects of gasifier operating conditions (temperature, pressure, stoichiometric ratio, residence time and bed material) on tar content of syngas produced.

Performed computational research on ionization sensing in gas turbine combustors under varying acoustic conditions. Presented findings the 2007 DOE UTSR Peer Review Workshop.

Performed computational fluid dynamics research on flow of purge gas in a high-throughput photovoltaic cell manufacturing chamber under vacuum conditions. Presented findings at a corporate meeting for spinoff company AVA Solar, Inc. (Fort Collins, CO).

Design, fabrication and testing of electro-hydraulic control systems for gas and steam turbines.

Design, fabrication and installation of cogeneration plant systems. Assisted distribution engineers with design, welding and pipefitting of steam piping systems. Responsible for steam usage metering equipment for campus buildings.
