Profile bio

About Swetha Chidambara Ganesh

I was not the girl who had always dreamed of being an aerospace engineer or any sort of engineer when she was a little kid. In fact, when I was a little girl I wanted to be a baker who baked galaxy-shaped cookies, spiral cakes, and pastries because I thought the hues of space were pretty. Ever since I was a kid, the only thing I was certain about was that I have always been in awe of the vastness of space and felt a draw towards it. As I grew older, I slowly found myself getting closer and closer to finding how I can incorporate studying space into my life. After my baker inspirations faded it had hopped to many different places until recently. I wanted to be a pilot, then an astronaut, and now am currently getting my degree in aerospace engineering. Even though I am not exactly sure what I will be working on within the extensive aerospace industry, I know that my passion to learn more about how to build various tools and vehicles to help us get closer to finding answers to humanity’s questions about space and what we can do with it has grown. From my experiences in engineering classes and technical team projects, I have gained several defining and insightful moments that have enriched my love and drive for engineering. When my team’s CubeSat satellite was able to process an image of plastic successfully, when I was able to analyze my first exoplanet transition, and when my team and I did our first design review for the P&ID that currently has 6 iterations my drive was further fueled. Being able to ask questions, overcome obstacles, openly communicate, understand others perspectives, and recognize that nobody is always right are qualities I have learned, that have helped me come this far, and will continue to do so. My drive keeps pushing me to contribute to space through engineering and helping us find out more about the unknown we know as space. I want to gain experience in several areas, keep asking questions, and keep learning. Whether I am partaking in stress deformity tests on an airfoil, running ANSYS simulations on fluid flow systems, or developing standardized procedures for vehicle testing, I know I am making a mark in the aerospace industry.
