About Sybil Bell

I am Founder & CEO Independent Venue Week Ltd & Independent Venue Community.Independent Venue Week (IVW) is the UK’s annual 7-day celebration of independent music & arts venues & the people that own, run & work in them.Independent Venue Week is a nationwide initiative with a local feel, highlighting why venues are cultural hubs for learning, creativity, arts & culture more widely connecting people in their local community of all ages, backgrounds, abilities, genders, ethnicities, skills, experiences & walks of life. These venues, all local businesses, are the backbone of the live music scene & Independent Venue Week recognises all that they have done to create some of the most memorable nights of the past so they can continue to do the same in the future.Independent Venue Community (IVC) supports, nurtures & celebrates independent music venues & the communities around them, on & off stage, all year round. We do this by bringing a programme of activity, aimed at new audiences, to be delivered in the venues during the day, throughout the year, around the country. I also set up & host Independents Day, our stakeholder event where we all meet up in London with our partners to explore challenges & opportunities for our collective community & our share our plans for the future.I have range of experience in music including artist & label management, tour management & promotion in the UK & internationally as well as planning & running events such as awards shows & corporate events in music. I have owned a live music venue & recording studio, has consulted at various music industry trade bodies including UK Music, the MMF & the FAC & co-ordinated international networking events at SXSW for DiT (Formerly UKTI) for eight years. I have done a wide range of press including BBC 6 Music, Radio 1 Newsbeat, Radio 4’s front Row, BBC World Service, Radio 5 Live, numerous regional radio, Sky News, ITV News & appeared on television on The Politics Show, Victoria Derbyshire Live both on BBC 2 as well as BBC World & written for Huffington Post & done interviews for Music Week & Q Magazine among many others.I have spoken & curated panels at SXSW in 2011, 2013 & 2016. I Like The Sound Of That is a music marketing and experiential agency delivering brand partnerships and creative consultancy. We have extensive experience both in the music industry and with brands so are well placed to join the two together to create meaningful, long-lasting partnerships. We have years of hands-on music industry experience in band management, running labels, single and album campaigns, tour planning, promotions and national and international live activity. In marketing we have undertaken strategic planning, created and rolled out marketing plans in the UK and internationally, planned, run and evaluated small, medium and large scale events, PR, sponsorship and brand partnerships.I Like The Sound Of That has a very strict policy when working with brands – “No Badge Slapping”. We only bring partners together who have a long term view and will work with integrity in music. As well as bringing together existing partners, we are also able to tailor-make projects from experiential, live, social media and a mixture of all three. These can vary from specific events, continuing campaigns and activation. Though our extensive range of highly creative and skilled strategic partners we can offer label services to cater for artists and labels big or small, in need of unique marketing campaigns. Working solely in music, I Like The Sound Of That is built on creative energy, professional management and originality. Independently owned, we thrive on the culture that makes us vibrant, fresh thinking and driven by results.

  • Fm First Monday Music Networking
    Founder
Fm First Monday Music Networking Mar 2007 - Mar 2013
FM is a music industry social networking night. Or if you want the less stuffy description, drinks in a pub. FM Stands for First Monday – the date every month when we get together – that way everyone knows exactly when it is. It's not stuffy in any way; no badges or bossy organisers – if it was like that, we wouldn’t come!! FM is a very relaxed get together with people from the industry, in a bar, all there to meet other people in the industry and possibly do business. And it’s totally free. So much business is now done by email and online, I wanted to do things on a more personal level. We have been running in London since March 2007. There have been ad hoc satellite events in Brighton, Liverpool, New York, Latvia and Amsterdam. As of November 2011, I have 780 people on the mailing list and generally the events attract between 10-40 people. They range from heads of societies i.e. MMF, MPA, BASCA to lawyers, artists, video directors, promoters, publishers and students. As well as the monthly get togethers, I also send emails out between events with my take on things that are happening in the industry and a more light hearted look at life in general as well as posting messages on behalf of people on the mailing list looking for jobs, band members and offering deals to other FM members. You are not bombarded you with endless emails - apart from anything I don't have the time! FM starts from 6.30pm and runs until people go home - not always early… You can arrive early then go off to a gig or come along after – you don’t need to RSVP – just turn up. People who come are; MANAGEMENT – LABELS – ARTISTS – PROMOTORS – PUBLISHERS – PRODUCERS – LAWYERS – ACCOUNTANTS – PR’s – PHOTOGRAPHERS – VIDEO PRODUCERS – CHARITIES – TRADE BODIES SUCH AS MMF, BPI, AIM, MPA ETC, UKI TRADE AND INVESTMENT AS WELL AS STUDENTS LOOKING FOR INTERNSHIPS We take a break in January and August.
