A law enforcement officer's badge...it's more than a shield or medal but an identity and a very important one. It's a personal piece of equipment for any officer. The attachment to the badge starts the day a recruit graduates to officer, receiving their brand new, shiny shield. This time honored symbol of accomplishment represents more to it's owner, and their loved ones, than any other item of an officer's uniform. My personal connection became clear June of 1969 as I eagerly graduated the Sacramento County Sheriff's academy. My young, new wife, (celebrating over 50 years!) watched with excitement as the badge was pinned on my chest. I cherish the original badge, #391, still a large part of my identity, more than 50 years later. In the summer of 1974, I sustained an injury on duty forcing an eight week hiatus allowing my bones to heal. In those days, "light duty" was not an option instead we just stayed home. Out of support for a long time friend, Ben "Nighthorse" Campbell, I participated in his beginning jewelry making class. Ben was a famous jeweler specializing in Native American themed jewelry and later went on to be the first Native American senator in the country. Ben's class sparked an untapped passion and I was hooked. In 1979, I opened my first jewelry store and soon after began creating replica badge pendants for my previous beat partners and their loved ones. After hand engraving these symbols in silver, I now manufacture badges using modern technology and mills. This modern process allows for amazing levels of detail and intricacy in each piece.A personalized badge pendant is a way for an officer to share this sacred identity with loved ones. The deep connection family members have to these pendants became apparent. Wives, husbands, kids and parents are equally connected to the badge pendants in support and as a token of love for these officers. I often hear the badge pendant is a favorite piece of jewelry with many refusing to remove the chain out of superstition to the officers safety. Over the past thirty years, we have intricately created thousands of department specific badges for officers and their loved ones. I've had the honor of donating pendants to remaining loved ones after an officer has made the ultimate sacrifice. My passion is creating high quality, personalized pendants as I recognize the importance of these badges and their significant representation of an officer's identity.
