Graduate ResearcherSan Francisco State University Sep 2007 - Aug 2010San Francisco, Ca, UsBeyond Risk: The evaded curriculum in Sexuality Education for homeless and marginally housed young women Nearly 4,000 young people are homeless in San Francisco annually. As that number increases, sexuality researchers routinely focuses on sexuality among young people as a problem. In an interview study of young women who identify as homeless and/or marginally housed, I explore the complexities of these young women’s sexual lives. The study’s findings prompt recommendations that advocates, providers, researchers, and programmers develop programs and studies that take into consideration both the universal sexual struggles and pleasures experienced by young women and the unique circumstances of those young women who are homeless and marginally housed. In order to meet these general and specific needs, programs should include tools and discussions of how to minimize discomfort of sexual activity and how to maximize and enhance both safety and pleasure. -
