I am a Biology student at the University of North Texas. Small Town, Big Dreams I grew up in a town so small that it isn't on most maps, called Samson Park. Most people also have never heard of my high school- Castleberry High School. Although my high school was small, to be noticed you had to make a big splash. From a very young age I knew I wanted to do something bigger than what my small town had to offer, so I started working as hard as I could. While in high school I was involved in my school’s dual credit program at Tarrant County College, the Advanced Placement program, my tennis team, a manager for the girls’ basketball team and a leader in my school’s Athletic Training program. By the time our GPA and class rank locked in I was number 7 in my class with a 3.85 GPA and I am very proud of that. While in high school, we were assigned a Project Based Learning assignment to conduct research on the traffic flow of a road near our high school. From the data we collected we created a presentation for the city council and after many months of work we got the plan approved. By fall 2016 we had a school zone along with a rectangular rapid flashing beacon in place. Through this project I had to lead the group, speak with city council members and professionals in traffic studied to present a plausible solution to the problem.I am involved in my dorm through the West Hall Association by helping to create programs for residents. This is my first semester at UNT. I chose biology because I want to go into the medical field. Through my childhood I knew I wanted to help people and I knew I wanted to do it through patient care. I decided to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in biology then I plan on attending a physician’s assistant master’s program to become certified. I am determined to help people and to be able to better their quality of life through medicine. I am ready to make a difference in the lives of others and I am ready to put in the work required to do so.
