I’m changing the way people approach learning the piano by using my classical training, my love for video games, and its music. As any teacher knows, the hardest part about educating is keeping students engaged - that’s where I come in. In 2015, I hit two major milestones in my career. I graduated from NYU Steinhardt’s Scoring in Film and Multimedia Master’s Program. Shortly after, I helped to start Smart Game Piano - an online academy with nearly 7k monthly students, and YouTube channel - dedicated to educating those with a shared passion for piano and video game music. To give the students the highest quality experience possible, I teach classic, current, and upcoming video game music all from scratch. And this requires wearing many important hats: I arrange student-friendly piano solos, write easy-to-follow educational scripts, and then edit and produce the audio, graphics, & video assets that become a part of a growing library of over 600 lessons. And I wake up every morning loving it.This line of work has forced me to evolve. Engaging with the community (which is the thing I’m most proud of) that I’m reaching acts as a huge source for the lessons I create. Social media has been a science that constantly requires mastering new approaches to engaging, learning new tools, and challenging myself to produce higher and higher quality lessons. Since the beginning of Smart Game Piano in 2015, I’ve grown the YouTube channel to over 76K subscribers and over 12m views.Like I said, I’m most proud of the Smart Game Piano community. A group of passionate, encouraging people who spend their time uplifting their peers to be the best versions of themselves. They have changed the way I approach music entirely. I sincerely believe that all of us are capable of meaningful creativity when we don’t settle, and teaching a diverse array of students has taught me there is no reason any of us can’t make music.As I continue to work in music, I hope to continue to grow confidence in others that they can indeed be musical. I also hope to push them to someday create their own original work. I also hope that I leave behind a positive, original, and joyful contribution to music.
