I’m on a mission to overcome the stigma that accountants are boring. When I was kid, I would ask my parents for a cash register for Christmas. The catch was, I told them real money had to be in it. Clearly, I've always had a fascination with money! At first I did not see myself in the accounting field, as I thought the sciences were my calling. Now here I am, a President List's Student at the University of Ontario Tech and the President of Ontario Tech's Accounting Association. I quickly realized my passion is crunching numbers, balancing equations and understanding the financials of organizations.People think accountants sit at desks and just play with Quickbooks and Excel. People need to know accountants are the reason their favorite businesses is able stay to operational. With thousands of job options… Here I am … an undergraduate student who is aspiring her CPA. All while using her outgoing, bright and confident personality to prove the accountant stereotype wrong. “Hey Sydney, sitting at a desk all day seems so boring!” Me: “Accounting is more than just sitting at a desk.”Through accounting, I am able to combine my analytical and detail-oriented skills with my interpersonal and leadership skills. Ensuring that a positive rapport is built with clients as their financials are being completed. Developing a firm trust between myself and the client. No more thinking accountants sit at desks all day and twiddle their thumbs. I am ready to make a change. Does anyone want to join me?
