My interest in biological and anatomical science is rooted in my childhood experiences.Many of my childhood weekends were spent “rounding” with my mother, playing in my father’s office while he was seeing patients, and happening across old anatomy textbooks. I loved the idea of identifying a problem, establishing and executing a plan, and the affirmation that the task was successfully completed. I have since grown to learn that medicine is not quite that simple but I welcome the idea of applying my genuine interest and acquired skills in science to make a difference in the quality of life of another person.Learning anatomy from my 9th-grade biology class pig dissection became a symbol of my perspective of the world and was consistent with the adage that we have more in common than not. Recognizing this commonality is imperative to ensuring that everyone has the same access to health care in conjunction with housing, jobs, and education. I knew then that I would prefer to continue my education at an institution with a legacy of providing a supportive educational experience that encourages inclusivity, equity, and equality.I’ve spent most of my life in the world of medicine. Matriculating through Spelman College and my combined external experiences have affirmed that I should truly pursue a medical degree. Therefore, I am positive that a degree in medicine lies in my future.
