Communications Specialist
CurrentServes as liaison to the Town’s Fire and Public Works departments. Works closely with the departments to create strategic communication plans to support outreach initiatives, events and open houses with up to 100 residents in attendance. Recipient of the Town’s Value Award in August 2022 for social media support provided during Castle Rock Water’s ColoradoScape contest. The social media campaign reached over 64,000 people, more than doubling the amount of people reached compared to the three previous years’ statistics.Created and presented classes on web accessibility to the Town’s website contributors. Presentation covered basic principles of website organization, alternative text and PDF remediation to follow the Accessibility Law for Colorado State and Local Governments. Oversees website pages for the Town’s Fire and Public Works departments utilizing the content management system CivicPlus. Reviews and approves submitted pages for adherence to AP Style, alt text and branding standards before publishing.Collaborates with Town departments to identify content, create videos and write engaging social media posts on Facebook, Instagram, Nextdoor, and Twitter. Social media posts highlight Town employees, event information, and informational posts such as “Spotlight on Safety,” and “Know Before You Go” weekly content.Responsible for coordinating with project managers and departments to answer resident questions, comments, and concerns via social media. Writes and distributes news releases. Assists with media inquiries and coordinates interviews.Writing contributor to the quarterly Townwide publication, Outlook Magazine, which is mailed to every Castle Rock resident and includes behind-the-scenes information and interviews about Town services. Writes monthly content for the Your Town Talk newsletter, delivered monthly to residents along with their water bill.
