Sydney is an emerging architectural historian and illustrator based in Los Angeles with a passion for education, accessibility and graphic novels. Sydney’s journey with graphic novels began with "AGBANY: the birth of the historic preservation movement" which she authored, illustrated and self published in Summer 2022. Spending the first three years of her career in preservation consulting, she has now pivoted to working full time as a freelance historian and illustrator for architectural history, historic preservation and public history interests. She hopes to use comics and graphic novels as a means of making history accessible and captivating to a wider audience. Interested in working together? Check out my website: squidnycomics.com A native Texan and proud longhorn, she started her preservation career in Austin where she earned her MS in Historic Preservation and BA in Art History (with a minor in Architectural History and certificate in Museum Studies) from the University of Texas at Austin. Sydney's graduate thesis explores the university housing cooperatives in Ann Arbor, Austin and Berkeley as the intersection between affordable housing, community building and historic preservation.
