Geophysics Research Internship
Imaging Earth's mantle with seismology.I started by repairing and improving a finite element code capable of solving the seismic wave equation in a three-dimensional Earth model. I then collected and processed real seismological data. Finally I used the solver to invert these data and improve locally numerical models of the Earth's mantle.The solver was written in C and fortran, with MPI and OpenMP for parallelisation. The simulations were performed on a high performance computing center to which I had access via the XSEDE program. I wrote the entire data collection, processing and analysis pipeline in Python and Julia, including a GUI-based software to speed-up data prospection.
