I once doubted that I could be a teacher. So much so, that I changed my major senior year of college. I did this out of panic, afraid that I wasn't prepared to handle all of the responsibilities. Worried that I couldn't lead. I instead worked aftercare positions, until presented an opportunity to join a school as a Reading assistant. I decided to take a chance. Fourteen years later, I now stand confidently in front of my students as a proficient and experienced educator of Philadelphia. I take great pride in my journey, because nothing was promised or given to me. I've had to work, and develop, and stay after school long hours. I've had to go back to school for certification and my Master's degree. I've had to have rough lessons, get through outrageous classroom behaviors, and regroup. I've had to repeat this cycle year after year, all to continue to become who I am, and get to where I am today. And I'm still not a finished product. A good teacher reflects and realizes something new about themselves and their students continuously. I deeply enjoy the students, families, and communities I serve. However, I want to remain open to bringing my work ethic and abilities to new places if it means I can advance and provide greater purpose.
