I express, purify, crystallize, and determine the structures of membrane proteins involved in antibiotics and antimicrobial resistance in bacteria -- especially in Mycobacterium tuberculosis and other mycobacteria -- and their regulators. Once the structure is solved, I use bioinformatic programs to predict protein-protein interactions (such as those in ABC transporters), possible ligands, and possible DNA binding sites. I worked in Dr. Hui-Hsien Chou's lab. I helped develop the beginnings of our protocols to test predicted siRNAs on C. elegans. I found where we could order strains of the worms, where we can order siRNAs, and how to feed and maintain the worms. In addition, Dr. Chou and I started the process of using qPCR to study the genes in the different strains of the worms to establish a control.

As part of the Stem Cell Internship from San Jose State University, I worked at Escape Therapeutics, Inc. to characterize human mesenchymal stem cells for therapeutic uses. I also work with bioinformatics tools such as AutoDock 4 and AutoDock Vina for protein-ligand docking simulations. I also helped design the website.

I worked in the viral discovery lab under Dr. Eric Delwart. I used various techniques and tools such as PCR and bioinformatics tools and databases to find novel viruses from human blood and fecal samples.

I worked in Dr. Kevin Karplus's laboratory, helping optimize protein structure predictions for the Critical Assessment of Techniques for Protein Structure Prediction 7 (CASP7) experiment.
