Specialized in sustainable business development and strategic management.Professional BIOSylvia, with dual nationality, Costa Rican and French; obtained her PhD in Management Sciences in 2017 from La Rochelle University in France, thesis supervised by Professor Jean Desmazes. Her doctoral research focused on a contribution to the design of public policy model for sustainable development of poor coastal areas. Previously, Sylvia earned her Master’s degree in Business Administration with emphasis in finances and banking at the University of Costa Rica, where she also achieved a certificate in International Trade. In 1997 Sylvia founded CIPAE Consulting, an independent consulting firm specialized sustainable business development (http://www.cipae.com). Currently she is ia Senior Consultant specialized in sustainable businesses development and strategic planning. Sylvia has vast experience conducting projects for a diverse type of entities, such as corporations, associations, cooperatives, government agencies and non-governmental organizations, in the Americas, the Caribbean, Europe and Southeast Asia. Sylvia also has been working in rural areas of developing countries close to institutions that promote sustainable development; in particular, on socio-economic issues.She has served on the board of directors of several entities and also served actively as an advisor, consultant, and volunteer with Ecologist Without Borders since its formation in 2011, to which nowadays she is also a Board Member. Apart from her involvement in consultancy projects, she currently teaches at La Rochelle Business School (Excelia Group) and at EIGSI La Rochelle, one of the four French major private engineering schools.
