Profile bio

About Sylvie Raver, Phd

I lead the neuroscience portfolio for the Milken Institute’s Science Philanthropy Accelerator for Research and Collaboration (SPARC). While I trained as a biomedical researcher, my true passion lies in connecting scientific discoveries with the people who will benefit from medical breakthroughs. Within SPARC, I apply my expertise in neuroscience, mental health, and biomedical research to identify opportunities for philanthropic investments that can have a transformative impact on medical research and health. I work with individual philanthropists, families, and organizations to design and advance intiatives focused on brain health and disease. I have published work on biomedical strategy with a focus on mental health, neurotechnology, and neurodegenerative diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD). I was also instrumental in developing a consensus definition for misophonia, a disorder of decreased tolerance to specific sounds or stimuli associated with such sounds.Prior to joining the Milken Institute, I worked for the Society for Neuroscience, where I led the society's global programming and policy efforts around neuroscience training for individual scientists and members engaged in biomedical workforce education and training. I received my bachelor’s degree from Lafayette College, my doctorate from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and conducted my postdoctoral training at the National Institute on Aging.
