My PhD project is part of the COMPARE convergence environment. As part of this environment, my work is directed to help disentangle the peculiar immune system of codfishes. Atlantic cod lacks a conserved reaction pathway in the adaptive immune system, in human this would result in severe immune deficiency and death. This makes Atlantic cod a very interesting study-object for understanding our own immune system especially related to human immune diseases. The results will affect future aquaculture, human medicine as well as providing a social sciences case for our awareness of future possibilities of gene modifications of fish and humans. In my project I use different biochemical and cellular techniques (human cell lines and an immortal cod cell line) to investigate the expanded MHC I repertoire and TLR repertoire of Atlantic cod using state of the art microscopy techniques and image analysis.

In parallel with the PhD position, I have worked as a project coordinator for the Norwegian Biology Olympiad, a knowledge competition organized at upper secondary schools in Norway. In this positions I have had primary responsibility for the organization and implementation of the competition, with responsibility for accounting, budget, applications, reporting, internal and external communication, as well as updating our social media platforms and working on the competitions public relations. I have also contributed with academic content and teaching.

In the position, I had the opportunity to continue working on my master's project with Professor Cinzia Progida, and a large part of the results generated during this period resulted in a publication in 2022.
