My name is Sammy Zarou and I am currently a junior at Locust Valley High School. I have a deep interest for the stem field, specifically physics, mathematics, and more specifically engineering. The summer of 2023 (June - September) I synthesized an environmental profile under Dr. Fernando Espinoza at the Hofstra High School Summer Research Program, and continues this profile by localizing it to towns such as Locust Valley, Matinecock, Lattingtown, Glen Cove, etc and submitted it to the Long Island Science Congress and Long Island Science and Engineering Fair. To continue research, in June of 2024 I will be measuring the output of magnetic fields using hemlotz coils at the High School Summer Research Program at Brookhaven National Laboratory. I also work at Oyster Bay Marine Center to expertly refuel boats and help customers in the most efficient manner. DUO (Do Unto Others), a youth group I founded along with two others, is associated with the St. John’s Church of Lattingtown and we strive to create a more interconnected community. I value the emotional side that often goes unnoticed in homeless individuals, specifically men, and that is why we work with them extensively on art exhibits and just communication. I also enjoy working out and playing sports such as lacrosse, ice hockey, and golf.
