Grew and matured Sumo Logic's architecture through several acquisitions, significant growth of engineering team and an IPO. Continued to be intimately involved with the key infrastructure Sumo Logic is built upon. Led initiatives to increase velocity of the development organization and ran a process to ensure product development kept longer-term technical considerations in mind.Developed and executed plans to replace several in-house frameworks and tools with open source or commercial alternatives.

Built out a strong team of developers with a healthy mix of junior and senior engineers. Mentored junior engineers and enabled senior engineers to work efficiently. Delivered quality product despite rapidly changing requirements of the business and scaled Sumo Logic's architecture to hundreds of nodes. Matured Sumo's proprietary cloud platform to be manageable at scale.

Joined the two founders (and long-time coworkers, friends) right after Sumo Logic was funded by Greylock. Created our scalable elastic cloud architecture, optimized for performance, security, cost and availability. Over time, adapted, simplified and evolved the architecture to meet changing needs and incorporate new AWS offerings. Wrote lots of Scala code. Advocated NoOps culture: We developers run the software we build, and we build the tools to manage it. We've seen great benefits in software quality and service robustness, since engineers are keenly aware of the operational aspects of their code. Invented dsh, the tool that enables developers at Sumo Logic to deploy, monitor and manage the complex distributed app in AWS. Using dsh, you can go from empty AWS account to fully deployed app with one command and less than 10 minutes. It boots instances with the latest OS version. It deploys all the software, including Hadoop, Cassandra, Zookeeper, HornetQ. Sets up security groups and manages IAM credentials. Creates AMIs. Manages petabytes of EBS and S3 storage. Worries about AWS costs. Ensures distribution over availability zones. Enables you to push updates and perform rolling restarts. Selected and implemented third party subscription billing system, integrated it with the Sumo Logic service. Designed and implemented a library for data partitioning over a cluster of machines.

Led team responsible for all appliance based products. Managed contract manufacturing and selected hardware platforms. Designed and implemented application run time environment for all appliance products (Linux and Java), including system management & authentication. Created application deployment and image creation automation that enabled ArcSight to be agile.

Built and refined core components of ArcSight ESM manager from scratch. Optimized scalability and performance of event processing pipeline by several orders of magnitude.Implemented high performance event transport with encryption and compression. Held responsibility for design, security and implementation of product authentication with integration to RADIUS, Active Directory and LDAP.Built and ran performance lab, led performance team.

Developed XMLSoC, a highly efficient, syntax oriented compression algorithm for XML. Created an implementation of the algorithm in Java, and refined it for optimal compression performance. Benchmarked algorithm against other compression algorithms, achieving significantly better compression ratio while maintaining similar decompression performance. The resulting thesis was graded with a 1.0 (the best grade in the German grading system).

Co-founded company as one of the first two engineers. Implemented scalable cloud based file storage application (Java/Informix/CORBA).

Part of the company from day one, starting from scratch. Built Java web backend of Cleverlearn Clicktionary on top of an Oracle database.

Developed a greeting card service for Amazon.com (Java/Oracle).
