From cyber-security work to games development, from building machine-learning systems to even a short stint in freelance full-stack development, I've seen a fair chunk of the industry. Yet throughout it all, I've always kept at least a few toes immersed in the embedded scene. Being a massive C++ nerd and loving to be hands-on, it's no surprise I thrive working on embedded devices. Being able to reason down to a hardware level puts my mind at ease, and though I have no formal education in electronics, I am always ready to get out the oscilloscope and start probing!I have recently scraped together enough kit to finally build SMT electronics from home, enabling my new obsession with programmable logic. I've already started work on a custom evaluation board for the ice40up5k FPGA and plan to continue the project to progressively larger chips (hopefully Artix-7 eventually - wish me luck!) and open-source my designs as a cheap way for anyone to start tinkering. Tying in with this obsession, as part of my degree I am super excited to be joining the HAFLANG project (https://haflang.github.io/) where I will help design hardware architecture to accelerate functional languages using Xilinx FPGAs for prototyping. As passionate as I am about embedded systems, you may also find me exploring the local food scene, grinding at the gym, or out and about enjoying the beautiful Scottish countryside. See you out there!
