The profile and activities of the company I work is accessible in company website chennaimertorail.com. DIRECTOR-Projects is one among three Functional Directors of Chennai Metro Rail Limited. I’m in charge of executing the civil part of the prestigious Phase-II project involving about 120 km with as many stations. “On date”this the largest Metro project in India, hope worldwide also, ever undertaken at a time. We use 23 TUNNEL BORING MACHINES for about 42 km of double tunnels. Incharge of Civil works in the upcoming Madurai and Coimbatore metros. Before assuming charge as Director-Projects on 2-6-2021 in Chennai metro, I worked as Director-Projects for Kochi Metro Rail Limited for nearly 5 years. ( 2016-2021)Before that during 2012-2026 i worked in Chennai Metro in various capacities as General Manager, Chief Project Manager and Chief General Manager. As Chief General Manager-Elevated Corridor, I was incharge of entire viaduct stretches of the elevated corridor and construction of three station building works. The elevated viaduct was built largely by segmental construction methods; in some obligatory locations there also involved construction of bridge with Balanced cantilever method of construction, large Open Web Girder steel bridge construction with heavy traffic and adverse site conditions warranting a lot of safety measures. I was further looking after the Construction of one of the largest Depots in metro rails. The Depot is provided with ballastless track, the first in India. My area of interst was track works; I was involved with construction of tracks both in the underground, elevated and depot locations to the extent of 115 track kilometers. There were nos of other civil works like staff quarters and administrative buildings etc that I look after.I was also involved with Arbitration and Adjudication jobs. My most important hobby is reading books and thinking about the issues, primarily of science, philosophy and religion.

Southern Railways. Overall incharge of all works related track renewal, maintenance of tracks, bridges and buildings. The notable works carried out during my tenure was improvements of track and increasing of speed potential of Virudhunagar-Rajapalayam section, Madurai-Manamadurai section and Trichy-Karaikudi-Manamadurai sections. All these section were originally commissioned with less than 100 kmph during gauge conversion. Subsequently, these sections were taken over from construction wing and speed potential increased to 100 kmph. Also, during gauge conversation works the prestigious Pamban bridge was entirely constructed to suit broad gauge standards by Madurai Division open line organisation. As head of Engg department I directly supervised and executed. It’s challenging job involving the openable Scherzer span. As the contractor of this Special Span failed, lakhs of riveting works done departmentally. One Eminent engineer, Mr. Anpalagan contributed immensely in completing the entire work. -

Executed large scale track renewal works and decreased the running time in that section from 1 hr 30 mts to about one hour. I was incharge of major Yards like, Basin Bridge coaching yard, Chennai Central station yard, Tondiyarpet marshalling yard etc,. Incharge of maintenance of MTRS section. -

Executed large number of PSC bridges, track works for 80km, large scale Earth works, major yards and cement sidings works. The entire 80 km stretch was completed in 4 months mega block time( closing of section for running trains) and the track certified for 100 km by Commissioner of Railways Safety. Subsequently, I was also incharge TRICHY and Tanjore section. After completion of TRICHY-Tambaram section, I was in charge of maintenance the newly converted broad gauge section from TRICHY to Tindivanam and Trichy to Tanjore for 1 year and 6 months. I was incharge of execution of more than 10 numbers of Road over bridges and Road under bridges spread over many districts. During that period, I was also incharge of for Nagore-Velankanni project. This was the most challenging assignment at young age given the huge quantum of works with vast jurisdictions. My next assignment, as Senior Divisional Engineer-Central, Chennai Division. Southern Railway was even more challenging, both physically and mentally demanding. -

Executive EngineerIndian Railways Jan 1997 - Jul 1997Hassan, Karnataka, IndiaI was in charge of Metre Gauge to Broad gauge conversion Project from Hassan to Sakleshpur, a beautiful ghat section in Western Ghats. It was a challenging job to execute earth and bridge works because of high banks and deep cuttings coupled with approach problems. I think for the first time in southern railway steel channel sleepers were used in this section. The Hemavathy river traverses through this line and the brige was executed with steel channel sleepers. During my stay at Hassan, I was looking after temporarily the urgent works of railway lines branching off towards Arisekere and Mysore from Hassan junction apart from Hassan-Sakleshpur section works. Also I was entrusted with some works in Mangalore region. Hassan was an excellent place with salubrious climate. It was a pleasure to travel on the national highways either side of Hassan towards Bangalore on east and Mangalore on west. Banglore for chief engineer office and Mangalore for gauge conversion works. -
