Employed as: 1) Parent Educator with Even Start & Toyota Family Literacy Program, 2) Instructional Assistant-English Language Learner (ELL), and 3) Student Attendant. Developed community and parent engagement in schools; worked closely with families, schools, libraries, Family Resource Centers, and volunteers to provide in-home and center-based homework help, English language instruction, adult basic education, distance learning, employment skills, parenting education, and parent-child interactive literacy activities. Supported teachers in classroom and computer lab while Common Core State Standards were adopted. In small and large groups, implemented language acquisition activities in English and Spanish for Newcomers and for Dual Language Immersion students. Assessed (tested) and supported adult and child learners (both Mainstream and SPED) re service eligibility and progress (i.e., ELL, Reclassification as Fluent-English Proficient, IEPs, speech improvement) using tools which included BPST, CASAS, CELDT, DRDP, ESPIRS, High Frequency Words, Reading Fluency, Language Assessment Scales (LAS), LAS Links English, and LAS Links Español. Assisted with State, District, and GATE testing. Reported to parents, administration, and faculty; provided data and graphs that corroborated early exit from Program Improvement, plus more efficiently complied with legal requirements. In Extended School Year sessions, worked one-to-one or as general support with special needs students. Mentored co-workers; ran before-school Reading Club; assisted in childcare, student supervision, front office, technology troubleshooting, and Spanish-English interpretation and translation.
