Chew's career started in 1971 under the name of Design & Planning Services after working as an assistant architect in the firm Seow, Lee and Heah Chartered Architects in 1969. During the 2 years, Chew designed Westwood Apartments, one of the first new generation luxurious high rise apartments in SG.Enviro Tec Chartered Architects was found in 1972. Chew was responsible for design & supervision of Fernhill Apartments & Fernhill Grove. Also in charge of designing & supervision of the Jakarta Convention Hall in Indonesia at a tender age of 24 years old.His work in 1975-79 included the master planning of a 300Ha satellite town in Indonesia, known as Kota Satelite in Darmo, Surabaya.2 prestigious condominium projects in SG were designed in 1980-82, Holland Hill Mansions & The Orange Grove, unfortunately, these have been demolished recently for glassy common apartments in SG.In 1982, set up a branch in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia & was responsible for designing a 17-storey commercial and residential complex in Damansara, Kuala Lumpur. In 1984, he was commissioned to design and also act as advisor for the largest shopping-recreational entertainment complex & cultural centre in Taman Hiburan Rakyat, Surabaya, Indonesia.Some of the well known projects that have awarded to Chew through competition are the Singapore Telcom Siglap building & masterplanning 'Mega Kuningan' in Jakarta. Other well known projects Chew is personally involved in from start till end of construction are the luxurious boutique Hotel Padma Bandung & highly successful acclaimed top 6 mall in Indonesia is the Sahid Kuta Lifestyle Resort, Beachwalk in Bali, Indonesia.Chew's personal belief is in the passionate crafting of space through understanding of details & the eventual construction of them. As today's world is fast paced & taken over by technology, at a ripe age of 67 years old, Chew still advocates the nurturing of the younger generation of architects.
